Guangzhou China Nightlife

Though in general Guangzhou’s nightlife doesn’t enjoy a particularly sterling reputation – think thumping nightclubs and karaoke bars filled with working girls – there are a few spots that offer the best nightlife in Guangzhou and are worth seeking out when it’s time to unwind.

The Brew, a family-friendly sports bar with locations in Zhujiang New Town, Yuexiu and Panyu, serves excellent burgers, nachos and wings and is a favorite of local expats. Seven different beers are on draft here, along with a number of imported microbrews in bottles and self-serve taps at some of the tables. Tavern Sports Bar, which is a cross between an American sports bar and a British pub, is another recommended spot to catch the big game over cold beers. Don’t care so much about the game? Grab a table on the huge outdoor patio.

A Bavarian-themed gem along the riverfront, 1920 Restaurant and Bar, is a low-key option with a homey atmosphere and at least a half-dozen types of beers on tap. Inside it’s cozy, but try to snag a table on the patio if weather permits.

Sapphire Lounge, a stylish bar located within China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel, Guangzhou, provides a sophisticated nightlife experience and offers excellent specialty cocktails, particularly the martinis.

A relative newcomer to the cocktail scene and a must for whiskey connoisseurs, The Loft at the Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou serves an incredible array of premium whiskies and spirits in a low-lit, gentlemen’s club environment. Though drinks here are a bit of a splurge, the service matches the price tag thanks to a team of encyclopedic servers who will walk you through a tasting, or pique your palate with an esoteric single-malt.
